Welcome to BeyondTheBark4U
Don Maxwell

In the past, Don has received wood from trees in a person's yard that were sentimental. He fashioned for one family a goblet for each child as a remembrance of the times they climbed in that tree as they were growing up. It was a wonderful memory for the family especially after the loss of one of the children.

If you do have a special tree in your yard that holds many years of memory, consider making something to pass down to a family member who would cherish this momentum. Custom pieces can be made to suit your needs. Sometime it takes a few months to prepare so that the wood is completely dry in order to prevent warping.

Visiting the studio is only a phone call away. Don usually can be found working, except in the extreme cold conditions. You are welcome to stop by anytime. A phone call would certainly make sure that he is available. He can be reached at 423-843-0095

The sapwood of Box Elder is typically a pale white, sometimes with a yellow/green hue similar to Yellow Poplar. The heartwood is a grayish/yellowish brown, frequently with red or pink streaks.
